The next AM I awoke outside the club in Leeds; The Brudenell Social Club. A small-ish place with a low ceiling and cool stage. The band (except PG) all walked into town to get some food. We hit this cool breakfast place and had a proper breakfast + coffee and got the day started off right.

I managed to make it to the drum shop and bought a new cymbal to replace the one I broke. I've not had to buy a cymbal through retail for a very long time (artist endorsement w/ Sabian, among other companies prior to) and dang! They're expensive! I ended up getting an 18" XSR crash; not the "top of the line" by Sabian...it was 172£ as opposed to the Evolution crash I wanted (285£) and so I saved a few bucks as well as checked out a cymbal series I'd have not otherwise become hip to.

The people in the drumshop were friendly and we had a good chat; so good in fact that I forgot that load-in/soundcheck started at 1pm and it was 10 of! Luckily the venue was only about 2mi from the drum shop and I can walk that far in 30 minutes. I wasn't really late, as there's a bit of a buffer from when the gear gets loaded in and I gotta set up. So I walked in at the perfect moment with a new crash.

The club folks were great and it was an amazing soundcheck; we got everything dialed and then... the digital board crashed and we lost all the settings. And so, we began the process again albeit a bit quicker since the engineer was competent and remembered most everything.

There's something about having a hot shower, as many places we hit didn't seem to have a great hot water delivery system. Many of these old buildngs don't have the proper accommodations for a boiler and they use these electrical heaters to provide "instant" hot water. Results may vary.

  • Gotta pose with The King! A couple of guys in a work truck stopped on the street just off-frame were razzing me and busting my chops as I was taking this.

  • What a great little family! I dropped off my laundry and walked into town and they folded it up for me and had it ready to go. We had a nice conversation and they were such nice people.
